ARTWORK INFO: This artwork is a tribute to Nintendo. A company who help build the videogame industry and until this day is still revolutionizing the landscape of videogames and creating new exciting experiences for gamers of all ages.
The company who saved the entire videogame home console industry after the North American Videogame Crash of 1983. The company who have given us classic games such as Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda and Metroid along with modern classics such as Pokémon, Pikmin and Super Smash Bros. The company who have given us iconic characters such as Mario, Pikachu, Link, Samus and Donkey Kong. The company who's innovations include shoulder buttons, control stick, rumble feature, first console 3D platformer, controllable camera, hub worlds, Z-targeting, dual screen/touch screen gameplay, motion controls and 3D gaming without glasses.
A total of 304 characters from the vast history of Nintendo make an appearance in this artwork. Including many recognizable faces such as Mario, Kirby and Link. You'll also find characters that only the older gamers will recognize and then there's characters that only the most dedicated Nintendo fans will be familiar with. There's also a total of 73 items, vehicles, consoles, handhelds and miscellaneous stuff. In addition, 55 third party characters, who’s games have help build the great catalogs that Nintendo consoles have enjoyed throughout it’s history, make an appearance. Retro legends, videogame icons, past rivals, longtime partners and new supporters. They're all here.
So lets give it up for Nintendo. For all the years of videogame entertainment they have given us and the best of wishes for all the years that the future holds. And thanks to all the third party companies who have supported Nintendo throughout the years.

You know, i've never understood why people moan about nintendo constantly releasing their old games. I mean if they're good games who cares? I've eaten roast pork several times but i'd gladly eat it again

Oh yes, I know. But this artwork, if you red the info, is about characters from Nintendo and third-parties that have appeared on Nintendo consoles. Therefore, Sonic is elegible.
Incredible job! I've always wanted to do something like this but the theme would be for specific game developers instead of console. (I tried my hand at it with just characters from PS2 platformers). Talk a bit about your process if you can:
You must have spent a lot of time just doing research and finding pics for reference.
I assume this was drawn on a computer? Even that must have been a challenge with a picture this size. Did you have a rough idea where some characters would go? Do you draw individual characters and then layer them in?
First of all, thank you for your comment. Really glad you liked it.
My initial focus was on Nintendo-only characters. And it was supposed to be around a hundred haracters. I started with the obvious. Mario, Zelda, Metroid. As development went on, I wanted to include more classic characters from the Arcade and NES era, obsure ones, new ones.
I eventually end up with adding third-parties as well. Nintendo has created some awesome games, but so have the third-parties. Can you think of great NES games and not think of Mega Man? Can you think of GameBoy and not think of Tetris? GameCube and Resident Evil 4?
About research, I mostly looked for pictures because I wanted all the characters to have designs and colors as accurate as possible to the original designs.
And yes, it was drawn on the computer with a mouse and a lot of patience and desire.
I did had a rough idea and I drew the characters very simple at first. And when I say simple I mean a circle for a head, for example. Because with that simple design the goal is to know were will all the characters go, what will they be doing and with who will it be interacting. Then I use a second layer to draw the actual characters. After that, a third layer for the colors. But yes, I do draw them all together.
